 NIC   JHARSUGUDA

The National Informatics Centre is a high priority plan project of Govt. of India was setup in 1977 with a long term objective of setting up informatics culture for decision support to the Government / Ministries / Departments and development of database relating to India’s socio-economics development and monitoring of plan programmes. From 1985-86, NIC has extended its informatics support services to state and district Administrations and signed memorandum of understanding with all the State Governments / UTs or the Union of India.

At present NIC is under the Ministry of Communication & Information Technology, Govt. of India.

The National Informatics Centre, Jharsuguda has become operational from March 1997. It provides informatics support to the District Administration and other State and Central Government Offices since its inception.

OBJECTIVE

The main objective of the District Unit, Jharsuguda are: -

#        Development of necessary and appropriate information system / databases in various sections.

 

#        Promoting informatics culture at District level.

 

#        Improvement of the analytical capacity and quality presentation of statistics utilized for decision making / district planning.

 

#        Establishment of Computer network with necessary communication equipments for ensuing reliable, timely and accurate information enabling optimal use of resources.

 

#       Providing extensive training / re-training to Govt. personnel and NIC users.

 

#       To provide the best quality service to the district administration.

 

INFRASTRUCTURE           

The NIC ,District Unit, Jharsuguda has been provided with the following infrastructure at present.

                   One HCL Powerlite-9100 BT Core 2 Duo Laptop, two HCL Slim Line PCs, One Pentium-IV Server, one Pentium-IV Client, one Pentium-III (Server), three Pentium-III Client, one Pentium Pro (server), one HP LaserJet M4345 MFP, one HP Scanjet 8350, two TVS Q-35 printer, one Samsung ML-1450 printer, one CISCO Router 7206, one CISCO Switch 2960, one D-Link Hub, one 5 KVA online UPS, two 2 KVA online UPS, one 1 KVA online UPS ,one 1.5 ton Air-conditioner.

 

 SOFTWARE

                   MS Windows 7 Professional, MS Windows XP Professional, Windows 2003 Server, Windows 2000 professional, UNIXWARE 1.1 & 2.1, Oracle 7.1, SCO Lyrix, SCO Foxbase, Windows 2000 server, MS Office XP Professional, Microsoft Office 2000 professional, SQL Server 2000, Windows NT Sever,  Linux.

 

VSAT

                   a) Gilat Skystar 360-E VSAT for internet connectivity.

                   b) SCPC DAMA VSAT for video conferencing.

 

Leased Line Internet connectivity

 

                 NIC is connected with 34 MBPS Leased line BSNL connectivity for Internet.

Computer Infrastructure in the District.

In the last 13 years a number of Computer Centres have been established in State Govt. Offices in Jharsuguda district. The NIC, Jharsuguda has extended every possible support for establishment and running of these centres. The offices where computer centres are functioning are as follows.

The NIC, Jharsuguda is in constant touch with these offices to provide necessary guidance in Software and Hardware on a day to day basis.

Training

This office has so far conducted 8 training programmes for district level officers and staff. The Officers and staff of the following Offices have been provided training.

The course for training covered, Fundamentals, Windows, MS-Word, MS-Excel, Internet etc. A total of 45 officers and staff have been trained so far. Proposal from a number of other Govt. Offices have been received for such training programmes.
